Intermarché-Wanty came with good news right following the sixteenth stage of the Tour de France. Their leader Biniam Girmay did not suffer any fractures in a crash in the final of the stage to Nîmes. The Eritrean was therefore able to start in the seventeenth stage today, but how is the wearer of the green jersey doing?

“How do I feel? To be honest, I’m okay. I don’t really have much pain. I had a pretty good night’s sleep and I was treated well by the team,” he said before the start in front of the microphone of Sporza.
“I landed on my knee when I fell, which is never good news, but I don’t have much pain. I do have some stitches in my elbow. That’s not ideal, but it’s not a problem,” he reassures people.
Due to his fall, Girmay was unable to sprint, which meant he lost his lead over Jasper Philipsenwho won the stage, saw his position in the points classification shrink considerably. The 24-year-old Eritrean now has a 32-point lead over the Belgian and will have to watch out for a possible coup by Alpecin-Deceuninck in the coming days.
