Risk of allergy, non-compliant product, risk of the presence of pesticides or bacteria… Each week, an average of two products are recalled and must be returned urgently to the store where they were purchased. A way of protecting the consumer in the event of a dangerous product. But concretely, how is a product recall set up?
Beware of Maltese oranges from Tunisia purchased at Auchan, Cora, Intermarché, Leclerc or Système U. They must be returned to the store as a matter of urgency as they have been treated with a pesticide banned in Europe. They are therefore part of the more than 6,000 food products recalled. A procedure that aims to protect the consumer. But how does it work ?
A site that brings together all current recalls
A product recall is initiated when an item poses a health hazard to the consumer. The recall is issued either by the manufacturer, or by the distributor, or by the authorities following notification. Then, charge the various actors to do everything to inform. This goes through the media and posters in supermarkets. The advertisement must specify the brand of the product, the batch number, the date of production, the place of sale, the cause of the recall and the risks to which the consumer is exposed.
Some stores even go so far as to use loyalty card files to contact affected customers directly. On average, there are two product recalls per week. To inform consumers, there is a single platform, the “Consumer recall” site, which brings together all current recalls.
