If we already knew that illegal IPTVs were profitable, new documents reveal to us that local resellers are likely to amass a small fortune by multiplying customers. Explanations.
It’s a soap opera that the Austrian newspaper tells us Delivery man : the dismantling of a network of illegal IPTV resellers for German-speaking countries. It all started with a complaint from a German supplier (perhaps linked to the Sky and DAZN groups), before becoming a hunt in two countries. Result: 20 arrests in this network of Turkish citizens residing between Germany and Austria.
And what we discovered on occasion would almost be enough to make us consider an illegal reconversion: in fact, it was a veritable fortune that the resellers amassed thanks to a network which covered thousands of customers, since each reseller itself managed between 300 and 2,500 homes.
In 3 years, the network had amassed nearly €11,000,000 spread across 60 bank accounts, for income per person of up to €25,000 per month for the most active resellers, those who managed an average of 2,500 customers. And still 3000€ per month for those who only have 300. This is in any case what we must understand if we are to believe the calculations carried out by the site specializing in the issue of piracy TorrentFreak. An estimate which assumes a price of €10 per month.
€1,600,000, the 60 bank accounts mentioned above and an Audi A7 were seized by the authorities.
If we describe them as being resellers, TorrentFreak points out that these men were suspected of having decrypted the official TV signal since 2016, which would above all make them direct suppliers. Kurier is also extremely ambiguous on the question.
If we learn of these events today, it has already been some time since the searches took place. Indeed, following 7 months in police custody, the suspects finally confessed and were awaiting trial. They might face up to 10 years in prison in Austria, not including penalties imposed by the German justice system. This is still something to think regarding, even if the jackpot is tempting…
