A letter written by Russian troops while retreating from Kharkiv, the second city occupied with the invasion of Ukraine on February 24, is drawing attention.

The Washington Post (WP) reported on the 15th (local time) that the Ukrainian army found 110 letters left by Russian soldiers guarding Izium, a key point in Kharkiv.

According to the WP, the letter, believed to have been written ten days before the retreat, contained the contents of “I can’t fight anymore.

The author, who introduced himself as the commander of an anti-aircraft missile platoon in the Moscow region, wrote: “I refuse to complete special operations missions on the territory of Ukraine any longer due to lack of rest and accumulated mental fatigue.”

In a letter from another soldier, he wrote, “His health is deteriorating, but he is not receiving medical assistance.”

In addition, there are reports that they requested leave for reasons such as marriage and childbirth, but were rejected.

Some of the letters were shared on social media by Ukrainian soldiers who first arrived in Izium.

Meanwhile, reports have emerged that Russian soldiers have committed atrocities, including electric torture and murder, in the recently restored Kharkiv region.

According to the BBC, there are allegations that the Russian military used electric torture and even murdered local residents in Baraklia, Kharkiv, recently recaptured by the Ukrainian army.

Serhi Bolbinou, a senior police officer from Baraklia, said on Facebook that the Russian military regularly tortured detainees at the local police station.

Artem, an actual Baraklia resident, told the BBC that he had been detained for 46 days at the local police station used as its headquarters by the Russian army and that he was also tortured with electricity.

Artem, who made him hold two generator wires, said, “I was tortured by electricity, saying that if I answered a question, I would lie.”
