Vladimir Putin tried to blackmail Europe. He failed. But its once cheap gas has cost Europe dearly.

LNG tankers in Norway: The Nordic country and the USA are Europe’s main suppliers of LNG. But the gas transported by tanker costs much more than Russian natural gas.

Dmitry Medvedev is one of the most well-known agitators of Russian President Vladimir Putin. He predicted that if Russia turned off the gas supply, the Europeans would “not survive a week.”

That was in April 2022. Putin actually turned his back on the following months. He throttled gas supplies to Europe by 80 percent. “A serious strategic mistake,” as Commission President Ursula von der Leyen recently conceded to him. “We have freed ourselves from his bonds.”
