The use of internet has become common in the present era and most of the people spend many hours every day in online activities.
But what effects does it have on our personality? The answer has been revealed in a new study. Research has indicated that the use of the Internet has positive effects on the personality of people around the world.
This study from Oxford University in the UK examined the effects of spending time on the internet and social media on personality.
Between 2006 and 2021, researchers analyzed data from 2.4 million people from 168 countries.
Thousands of statistical models were used during the research to find out the effects of Internet use on various aspects of an individual’s personality such as education, health, relationships with loved ones and others.
Research has found that access to and use of the Internet has positive effects on personality.
The research did not prove the reason for this, but the results showed that people with access to the Internet were 8.5% more satisfied with life than others.
This is the first time that the effects of Internet access on personality have been examined globally, the researchers said.
He said that by the way, excessive use of social media is considered harmful for the youth, but there is no solid evidence in this regard.
According to the researchers, if we make the online world safer for young people, then the debate over whether children should be kept away from online activities will end.
The results of this research were published in the journal Technology, Mind and Behaviour.

**Interview with Dr. Emma Lawson, Sociologist and Internet Culture Expert**
**Interviewer:** Thank you for joining us today, Dr. Lawson. With the internet being such a staple of modern life, can you tell us how its pervasive use is shaping our society?
**Dr. Lawson:** Thank you for having me! The internet has fundamentally transformed various aspects of our lives, from how we communicate to how we conduct business. Notably, it has fostered a global cultural exchange. People can now easily share experiences, ideas, and traditions across borders, which has enriched our cultural understanding.
**Interviewer:** That’s fascinating! But with so much time spent online, what are some potential negative effects on our personal lives and mental health?
**Dr. Lawson:** Absolutely, while there are clear benefits, there are also concerns. Many individuals struggle with issues related to screen time, online addiction, and social media pressures. These can lead to feelings of anxiety, loneliness, or depression as people may compare their lives to the curated versions they see online.
**Interviewer:** Interesting points. In terms of economic development, how has the internet shifted traditional business models?
**Dr. Lawson:** The internet has revolutionized business by allowing for e-commerce and remote work. Small businesses can reach a global audience without the overhead of a physical storefront. However, this shift also means that traditional jobs are changing or disappearing, which can lead to economic uncertainties for some workers.
**Interviewer:** With all these changes, what do you think the future holds for our relationship with the internet?
**Dr. Lawson:** The future will likely see a deeper integration of the internet into our daily lives, possibly with advancements in AI and virtual reality. However, it’s crucial for society to find a balance. We need to cultivate healthy internet habits and ensure that technology enhances our lives rather than detracting from our mental and social well-being.
**Interviewer:** Thank you, Dr. Lawson. It’s clear that while the internet brings tremendous benefits, we must navigate its challenges thoughtfully.
**Dr. Lawson:** My pleasure, thank you!
