How do you create rituals in your family?

Of course there are the rituals of major holidays such as birthdays, Christmas or New Year’s Day. But each family can also create its own rituals to strengthen the bonds and give well-being to your child.

What is the point of having family rituals?

Children like to have rituals not only to feel safe, but also to strengthen their bonds with all family members, including in a blended family. You thus offer beautiful memories that they will perpetuate perhaps throughout their life or with their own children.

Rituals also provide confidence and help to develop the child socially and emotionally, without forgetting that they promote creativity and the involvement of all family members.

What ritual to put in place?

If of course the routine of the week is necessary to give your child emotional security, do not hesitate to create new rituals to have fun throughout the year. It can be making pancakes on Sunday, having a picnic in nature, having an evening without television, telephone or tablet, or even dressing up at each change of season.

In the particular case of blended families, the repetition of rituals can help give meaning to the family in order to strengthen ties. Do not hesitate to have a movie night when the children arrive, prepare a meal together or organize a weekend elsewhere to meet outside the house.
