Khalil Shikaki and his team conduct demoscopy under wartime conditions. Their latest poll is regarding the two-state solution, the October 7 massacre and Hamas.
“Astonishing” and “confusing” are some of the results of his latest survey among Palestinians, said Khalil Shikaki as he presented the figures in Ramallah. The head of the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research (PCPSR) has been researching opinions in the Palestinian territories for decades. The ups and downs of the Middle East conflict can be traced in the data that his employees collect in interviews every three months and which he compiles into long series of numbers.
While approval for the Oslo peace process was at 72 percent in the mid-1990s, last summer 68 percent of those surveyed believed that the agreements had harmed the interests of the Palestinians. The same applies to support for a two-state solution: it is now very low, which, in Shikaki’s opinion, reflects the fact that the vast majority of Palestinians do not consider its implementation to be realistic following years of political stalemate.
