How do locals live with tourism in the Salzkammergut?

Tourism should satisfy longings and fulfill wishes. “But often people only think regarding what the guests in the region want, the locals are not included,” says Herta Neiß, who works at the Institute for Social and Economic History at the Kepler University in Linz and heads the “Livable Alpine Region” project.

The result of this project, which has been working on for three years, should ideally be solutions for sustainable tourism in the German-Austrian Alpine region. “We want to use large-scale surveys to find out what people locally want, where they see potential for improvement and how they deal with the daily challenges,” says Neiß.

The Dachstein-Salzkammergut holiday region is also involved in the project, alongside research partners from Salzburg and Bavaria. Locals can fill out a questionnaire online until the end of November to help develop success factors for sustainable tourism. Those who take ten minutes and then provide their name can also win a weekend for two people in the Chiemsee-Chiemgau and Dachstein-Salzkammergut regions.
