Elden Ring offers us an incredible adventure, mixing beautiful and sinister art direction with ruthless gameplay. Only here, if the new game from From Software is defined as an action-RPG in the open world and in solo, it also offers all adventurers the possibility of discovering its universe with several people, and this up to four players. Only, like any self-respecting From Software game, Elden Ring has a very special way of playing with friends, which, even if it has never been so easy, remains quite unique. We explain how to do it.
Useful Notes About Multiplayer in Elden Ring
Attention, as always in From Software games, cooperation and PvP are subject to restrictions. You will not be able to summon or be invaded if you have already defeated the boss of an area for example, and some areas and dungeons do not allow multiplayer interactions. If you die, your ally will disappear from the area, and vice versa. Also, if you want to reserve multiplayer interactions for your friends only, you and your friends will just have to set up a password in the “Multiplayer” then “Settings” of your game. Players with the same password as you will be able to see your signs and vice versa. A system similar to Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3.
Invite a player to Elden Ring
If in Dark Souls 3 you had to systematically consume an ember in order to play in cooperation, Elden Ring seems to be a little more tolerant on this side. If you want to invite a friend to your world, all you need to do is use a consumable item called the “Remedy for Crooked Fingers“. You get the recipe for this item from Kale in L’Elleh Church. Buy him kit de crafting for 300 runes, and you can start crafting items, including the “Remedy for Crooked Fingers”.
It can be crafted using two flowers of Flora Mundis which is very easily found in the first area of the game. To use it, go to the multiplayer tab of your menu, and consume it. Before using it, make sure that your friends are in the same area of the game in their respective games, and that they have placed their signs on the ground thanks to the Shardless Claw Finger. It will allow you to see the summoning signs on the ground. Golden summon signs will allow you to summon a player for co-op play.
Join a player in Elden Ring
Conversely, if you want to join another player’s game, you just need to use a Hooked Finger. There are two of them and they are infinitely reusable. the Shardless Claw Finger (which you pick up at the start of the game) will leave a golden summon sign on the ground for other players to co-op summon you to, while the Duelist’s Hook Finger (obtained when arriving at the Round Table) will leave a hostile summon sign to be summoned to invade another player’s game.
Multiplayer Items in Elden Ring
Of course, there are other PvP-related items:
- The Finger Cutter: chooses a summoned player and sends him back to his world
- The Blue Cipher Ring: Once activated, this ring gives you the opportunity to help other players, and you will automatically be summoned to their rescue if their game has been invaded by a hostile player.
- The White Encryption Ring: This ring is used to automatically summon an allied player in the event of an invasion of your world.
- The Bloodfinger: gives you the opportunity to hostilely invade another player’s game
- The Taunting Tongue: encourages hostile players to invade your world
- The Golden Effigy: places a nearby co-op summon sign in your co-op selection
