Scientists at the University of California Santa Barbara have made a new discovery in the field of mosquito biology, revealing that these tiny insects have an extra sensory ability.
Published in the scientific journal “Nature”. The discovery adds a new dimension to our mosquito understanding of how mosquitoes, particularly the disease-carrying species Aedes aegypti, find their prey in humans.
The team, led by Professor Craig Montell and researchers Nicolas de Beaubien and Avinash Chandel, revealed that mosquitoes can detect thermal infrared radiation emitted by warm-blooded animals.
