The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) announced the holding of the seventh edition of the Regional Educational Policy Forum which will be held virtually from October 3 to 5, with the objective of “reflecting on how digital technologies can contribute to the transformation of educational systems in Latin America and the Caribbean.”
The opening of the forum will be led by the Argentine Minister of Education, Jaime Perczyk, together with the director of the International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP) UNESCO, Martín Benavides; the director of UNESCO Santiago, Claudia Uribe; and the director, International Office of Education (IBE) UNESCO, Yao Ydo.
The forum will be aimed at people responsible for the formulation and implementation of educational policies in the countries of the region.
The virtual meeting will be made up of three panels with prominent specialists and will have the participation of representatives of international organizations and ministries of education from Latin America and the Caribbean, they stated.
The first panel It will investigate the status of digital technologies in the educational systems of the region.
The second will propose to debate the opportunities and challenges that arise from the use of digital technologies as tools for educational inclusion and improvement in teaching and learning processes.
And the third will address the potential that technology can offer for the planning and management of educational systems.
«Digital technologies have profoundly transformed society and culture, generating new challenges and opportunities for human development. In this context, education plays a fundamental role because it guarantees access to information, the generation of knowledge and citizen participation, and thus contributes to inclusive social development,” they considered.
In line with the conclusions of the Summit on the Transformation of Education (TES) held in New York (USA) in September 2022, the Regional Educational Policy Forum proposes “a space for dialogue, consultation and reflection between people responsible for the formulation and implementation of educational policies in the countries of the region,” they explained.
After the panels, a series of workshops will be held for those participating on behalf of the member states of the region and invited organizations, they detailed.
In them, they will work in small discussion groups, taking up what was presented in the panels and reflecting collectively on how the countries of the region can respond, in a practical way, to the challenges posed by the use of digital technologies in their educational systems in the region. in the process of formulating and implementing educational policies, they added.
The forum was convened by Unesco’s IIEP, in conjunction with Unesco Santiago, IOE Unesco, Unesco’s GEM Report and Unesco’s Team for the Future of Learning and Innovation in the Education Sector.
The event will have audio channels with simultaneous interpretation in Spanish, Portuguese and English, and the general public will be able to follow the opening and development of the panels through a live broadcast.
