Our colleagues from RTL are relaying information that is at the very least challenging on Monday. In Brussels and more specifically towards Brussels-North, a motorist was shocked to see in front of him a vehicle bearing a personalized plate according to him out of place. The plate in question “AH – 88” can indeed refer to Adolph Hitler. As for the two 8s, they might refer to H, the eighth letter of the alphabet, and therefore mean HH (for Heil Hitler).
The shocked motorist confided in RTL. “How did the DIV authorize such a plate? There is no control when ordering a personalized plate? he begins.
Before adding: “It might be the initials of someone called Adrien H. who was born in 1988, for example. But I find it hard to believe that this is not done on purpose, and with bad intentions.” However, he declares that he might not see the head of the driver to get an idea.
This same motorist also shares another plaque that caught his attention: “Tities”, an obvious English reference to a woman’s breasts. “It makes you wonder how the checks are carried out! It’s less shocking than the first plate, but it’s still quite special to see such a word on our roads“, he confides.
“Some combinations are already prohibited”
RTL took the pulse on the side of the Minister of Mobility Georges Gilkinet. His spokesperson clarifies:There are controls, but they need to be strengthened and we would like the DIV to increase its vigilance regarding requests for personalized plates. Some combinations are still prohibited. For example, Al Qaeda, KKK, insults, or even ‘Police’ for obvious reasons. However, the example of the AH-88 plate is complicated to manage, because it might have been initials and a date of birth“.
