How Danish laboratories got a head start in their ecological transition

They are one step ahead and want to make it known. The Danish laboratories established industrially in France, Novo Nordisk, Coloplast, Leo Pharma, Lundbeck and ALK Pharma, form the Franco-Danish Health Alliance. An association intended to bring together manufacturers who share a solid industrial installation in France, since these laboratories represent 4,000 employees in France, including 1,500 in the production of health products.

“Our Danish industries are a model of industrial decarbonization”, welcomes Nicolas Dufourt, general manager of ALK France, a specialist in allergy desensitization products, located in Marne and the Ardennes. The evolution of Danish legislation is not the only reason that can explain this structuring of investments. Denmark is a good European student in terms of decarbonization objectives. “It has been important for the Danish government to reconcile economic growth and ambitious green policy”underlines the Danish ambassador to France.

The country is aiming to reduce its emissions by 70% by 2030, compared to 1990 levels, or by half, taking the year 2019 as a reference, recalls the OECD in a dedicated report. “In terms of possible trajectory on carbon emissions, Alliance companies are -45% by 2030 (compared to 2015), while the French pharmaceutical industry is -33%”, notes Marie-Laetitia des Robert, founding director of Randea, in charge of the new study carried out by the Franco-Danish Health Alliance to assess its impact in France. There are numerous examples to illustrate the commitment of these laboratories.
