How dangerous is influenza A?

Who is susceptible to serious complications from influenza A and how can their lungs be affected?

Nguyen Thu Huong, head of the occupational disease department in charge of epidemic prevention at Tan Nan Hospital, warned regarding influenza A as follows:

In Huong, the most common disease among people with influenza A is pneumonia, especially since the patient has a rapidly progressive form of pneumonia, which can lead to death from respiratory failure.

Influenza A is highly contagious through the respiratory tract through saliva or nasopharyngeal secretions from sneezing and coughing. Usually the disease is mild and resolves within 2-7 days. However, in children, especially those with chronic diseases such as heart, lung, kidney, metabolic disease, anemia, and immunodeficiency, the disease is more serious, prone to complications, and can lead to death.

Doctors also recommend that influenza A is a respiratory infection like COVID-19. To prevent this disease, it is recommended that people still wear masks, keep distance in public gatherings, and reduce contact with people.

Active prevention of seasonal flu, including influenza A, requires ensuring personal hygiene, covering your mouth when you sneeze, washing your hands frequently with soap and clean water, and washing your nose and throat daily with salt water. Each person also needs to get enough nutrients to promote health and increase resistance to disease.

People need to limit contact with people with or suspected of having the flu when not needed. If you have symptoms such as cough, fever, runny nose, headache, or fatigue, you should immediately go to a medical facility for timely checkup and treatment.

In particular, since the seasonal flu vaccine is available, you should get the seasonal flu vaccine, as this is the most effective preventive measure.
