ShaChildren born with physical limitations are described as having the hand of God. But the guide of every such child is their parents. They fight once morest all limitations and difficulties and lift their children to success. An expatriate named PN Nasser tells the story of a father who overcame such trials and raised his son like normal children.
PN Nasr shared the life of his friend and Ponnani native Akbar and his son Abubakar Siddique on Facebook. Abubakar Siddique was born without two legs and one arm. But Akbar remained undaunted and stood by his son. With the help and support of many people, Abubakar taught Siddique till his post-graduation. Now Abubakar is preparing to write the PSC tests, according to Nasser’s note.
The post says that Akbar took his son to Makkah and went to Thailand with his family when many people hesitated to release such babies. In a note shared on FB, Nasser asks how Abubakar, who was born as the son of parents who have given so much support, can be called unfortunate. Along with this post, Nassar also posted a picture of Akbar and his son with Mammootty.

A story of a father and son…
Akbar is my friend since my teenage years. Before going to Gulf, I studied for a technical course in Kozhikode for two years. My roommate was Akbar from Ponnani. It later became the beginning of a long friendship. Soon following the course, both of us became expatriates in different countries. That’s why they didn’t know each other for a long time.
When they met years later, Akbar was already the father of two children. And for the third time, he told me with a small smile that his wife was pregnant ..so once more our friendship continued as warm as before.
One day following months I got a call from Akbar. He said that he was calling from the hospital and that his wife had given birth to a boy…. Finally he hung up the phone crying saying, “Eda Nasser, there is a problem. The baby has no two legs and one arm. I don’t know what to do.”
This is where the story of his son Abu (Abu Bakar Siddique) begins. We figuratively describe such children as those born with God’s signature. There is no dearth of sympathetic words in our country. But when entering into the reality of life, anyone will think for a moment how a baby like this can live on this earth. But Abu’s parents had no such thought. Because they themselves were becoming Abu’s hands and feet.
When Abu turned six, he began to wonder how to educate him like other children. Like all children, he speaks well. A hand will move across the floor. You don’t need anyone’s help to sit. The fingers of one hand were all glued together. How can such a child go to school?
It is at this stage that Akbar’s friend (Dr.Abdullah Bawa) who is working in Japan comes home once. Abu’s condition worried him a lot. He went back to Japan that day with a hope that something might be done. A few months later, a friend sent Japan visas for the three of them. So they boarded a plane to Japan hoping to get a prosthetic leg.
Through the generosity of a social organization in Japan, Abu was examined by the best doctors there. Abu’s was a very rare case in the world. Because of that, the information that this child with 95% physical limitation (disable) will not be able to do such a thing shattered their hopes.
However, the human-loving doctors of Japan…especially Dr. Navata behaved very kindly. A small Yamaha vehicle was specially designed and built for him to travel. He also gave training to drive it for three months. .. all for free. When he was moving in that cart through the corridor of the hospital unaided for the first time, he looked at his father and called out loudly and said, “Dad, I am walking.”
After his birth, that father cried once more. But this time it was tears of joy.
After returning to the country, Abu did not get admission anywhere because there were many technical obstacles to enroll him in the school. Finally, due to the efforts of a magnanimous teacher, he studied in a school till the fourth standard. An auto rickshaw puller was specially appointed for that purpose. He will be taken to school and placed in his special chair in class. Maids take it to the toilet. Such were the later times.
Ponnani’s most famous AV from 5th standard. In high school, with the kindness of teachers and classmates, he reached the 10th standard. Wrote 10th class exam with the help of scribe and passed with good marks.
In the meantime, his carriage brought from Japan broke down. Instead, Abu’s travels in a similar German-made car costing Rs 2.5 lakh. It was something that might be carried in three parts even when going on a long journey. It is still used.
After passing Plus Two with good marks, Ponnani got into MES for computer science, which he was very interested in. Joined the college. The young Abu was still taken by the autocan and made to sit in the class. The accounts of sacrifices and sufferings his parents did not convince anyone. They had only one goal.. Both of them were in the mood to do anything for Abu’s life to be safe even following their time.
After graduation, I got admission in Msc Computer Science in Calicut University campus. The whole family moved there for his studies. But the unaffordable house rent and lack of facilities for Abu’s many things left the family exhausted. Finally Akbar wrote a letter to the Chief Minister showing all the information for Abu’s accommodation. The order arrived from Thiruvananthapuram in exactly one week. A quarter where the employees live and all the accommodation including a ramp for Abu’s car and a separate toilet were fixed at a cost of one and a half lakhs. Thus Abu completed the Msc course successfully. After Abu left home, it was decided to give these quarters only to disabled children.
Abu is currently preparing to write the PSC exams. Started going to coaching class for that.
Last week in Ponnani, Abu’s friends, neighbors and local people convened a meeting to congratulate Abu and his parents. There, when Abu spoke regarding the sacrifices of his parents, there was no one who did not wince. He knows without anyone telling him that they don’t care regarding the sun to shade him.
This story (not the story but life itself) is a lesson. There are many parents who do not release babies with defects. Children for them can be a disgrace. But there are no roads Abu has not traveled. He went to Makkah with his parents. Went to Thailand to have fun with family. The boy was able to fly to the boundless sky because of his father and mother as his wings. Who can describe Abu, who was born to such parents, as an unlucky one..
