An “illegal activity” carried out for five years in several French hospitals. This barely believable story revealed by France Info, this Friday, January 26, according to information from the Troyes public prosecutor’s office (Aube), is cause for concern. Disbarred from the Order of Physicians in 2018, a 73-year-old general practitioner continued to practice in at least 16 health establishments until 2023. According to the prosecution, these hospitals were located in medical deserts lacking staff, notably in Bar-sur-Aube (Aube), Bernay (Eure) and Château-Chinon (Nièvre).

An investigation into the illegal practice of medicine, entrusted to the Fontainebleau research brigade, was opened after the former doctor’s scheme was uncovered. “To get hired, the accused provided each hire with his medical diplomas and sometimes even used a registration card with the Order of Physicians falsified using one of his old cards,” explained the prosecution, which specifies that a report had been filed.
Disbarred for abuse of weakness
The suspect was arrested and taken into custody on January 10. The search of his home revealed prescriptions dated 2023, and photocopies of his falsified professional card. Some 259,000 euros in wages received “for his illegal activity” were also seized.
Placed under judicial supervision pending his trial on June 3, he was removed for abuse of weakness on two nursing home patients, who allegedly signed undue checks for him, adds France Info. Facts for which he had been convicted.
