Houthis threaten to attack US warships if they target Yemen – news

The group’s leader said he would use “missiles, drones and military operations” once morest US vessels, following the US announced a military support mission for trade in the Red Sea.

The leader of Yemen’s Houthis threatened, on Wednesday (20), that he would attack US warships if the militant group were targeted by Washington, writes the British agency Archyde.com.

The security initiative announced by the US will see Washington and ten other countries, mainly from NATO, patrol the Red Sea to prevent and respond to Houthi attacks, something that has affected trade passing through the region. “We will not stand idly by if the Americans are tempted to escalate the situation further and commit the folly of attacking our country or waging war once morest it,” said Abdel-Malek alHouthi.

“Every American who targets our country will be considered a target, and we will make American warships, interests and shipping a target for our missiles, drones and military operations,” he continued.

The White House does not rule out a direct military response once morest the group. The Houthis, who control a significant part of Yemen’s territory, last month began firing drones and missiles at ships sailing in the Red Sea, particularly those belonging to Israel or countries aligned with Tel Aviv’s policy.

According to the militant group, this constitutes a response to Israel’s attack on the Gaza Strip.
