(CNN) – The US Central Command (Centcom) said on Friday that the Houthis threatened 3 ships in the Red Sea that were flying the Liberian flag.

Centcom added, in a statement published on the “X” platform, that “the Houthis threatened to attack a ship that was heading north in the southern part of the Red Sea, and ordered it to turn around and go south, and although there were no American ships in the region, the American forces maintained “It was in direct contact with the ship, and it continued its course to the north.”

The statement continued: “A drone launched from Houthi-controlled territory struck a ship that was heading south, and the ship’s crew immediately sent a distress signal stating that it was fighting a fire caused by the attack. The fire has since been extinguished and the crew has since decided that there is no need for further… Help”.

Regarding the third incident, the statement said: “The Houthis fired two ballistic missiles towards the international shipping lanes in the Bab al-Mandab Strait. One of these missiles hit a ship and its crew sent a distress call, reporting that the ship had caught fire. The American destroyer USS Mason responded to this call and it is likely that The other missile missed any ships.”

The statement noted that “no casualties were reported on any of the three ships that were attacked,” but stressed that these attacks “are evidence of the great danger to international shipping due to these Houthi actions.”
