Houthis attacked American ships – speaker’s statement

Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthis say they carried out a military operation in which they attacked two US warships in the Red Sea, Reuters reported, citing the group’s spokesman Yahya Sarea in a televised speech on Tuesday.

According to him, the ships were attacked by naval missiles and drones.

Houthi attacks in the Red Sea have disrupted global shipping, forcing companies to change routes to longer and more expensive ones around southern Africa, and fueling fears that a war between Israel and Hamas might destabilize the entire Middle East.

The militants have repeatedly launched drones and missiles once morest international commercial shipping since mid-November, saying they were acting in solidarity with Palestinians once morest Israeli military action in Gaza.
