While the housing crisis affects all of Quebec, the rise in rents is not felt only in the major urban centres. Here are 8 cities in which the price of rental accommodation has increased significantly:

Gatineau
The city of Gatineau will be the most affected with an average increase of 10.4% in rents for all types of housing combined, according to a study by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC).
Shawinigan
The city of Shawinigan, in Mauricie, ranks second in the CMHC ranking with an average increase of 9.2%.
Sherbrooke
The city of Sherbrooke, in Estrie, is coming equally with Shawinigan to complete the top-3 of the standings. The price of rents also experienced an average increase of 9.2%.
Salaberry-de-Valleyfield
In Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, in Montérégie, the average increase in rents was 8.2%.
Saint Hyacinthe
Also in Montérégie, housing prices increased by an average of 8.1% in Saint-Hyacinthe.
Jonquière
The city of Jonquière, in Saguenay, is not left out. It also experienced an average increase in rents of 8.1%.
Sainte Marie
The city of Sainte-Marie, in Chaudières-Appalaches, has observed an average increase in the price of rental housing of 7.9%.
South Chicoutimi
Back in Saguenay, rents rose an average of 7.6% in Chicoutimi-Sud.
