Brazil has more than 1.6 million homes with solar panels; franchises contribute to expansion

More than 1.6 million homes with panels, spread across around 5,500 Brazilian municipalities that adopt photovoltaic solar energy, shows a survey carried out by the Meu Financiamento Solar platform (specialized in financing for photovoltaic projects). And this number tends to increase.

According to a study carried out by the Brazilian Association of Photovoltaic Solar Energy (Absolar), at the beginning of this year solar energy surpassed wind energy, occupying second place in the Brazilian electrical matrix, with a total of 15.9% of the installed power in the country, behind only of water.

Of the total electrical energy produced in the country, 15.9% comes from solar sources; according to ABF, the Home & Construction segment grew 9.5% in the third quarter of 2023

Brazil, according to Absolar, is expected to add more than 10 GW of photovoltaic solar generation in 2023 and reach an accumulated installed capacity of 34 GW at source. The performance would represent a growth of 52% in relation to the current power and the best year in the history of the sector in the country.

Franchises on the rise

With the price of solar kits more accessible and easier to finance them, franchises in the sector have taken advantage of the moment to increase revenue and expand. According to data from the Brazilian Franchising Association (ABF), the Home & Construction segment, of which solar energy networks are part, grew 9.5% in the third quarter of 2023 compared to the same period last year.

Ecos Energia Solar Fotovoltaica, which provides installation services for projects in homes, businesses or farms, solar plant maintenance and performance monitoring, is an example. According to Lucas Mouco, CEO of the network, sales of solar kits for homes have risen in recent years. “The frequent increase in energy bills is one of the motivations for our customers,” he says.

Expansion of the business of equipping homes with photovoltaic panels

This has helped Ecos Energia Solar Fotovoltaica to expand. In November, the franchise opened units in Mogi das Cruzes (SP), Cabo Frio (RJ), Cuiabá (MT), Contagem (MG), Manacapuru (AM) and Araguari (MG). By the end of this year, the franchise plans to reach 220 units.

“We offer three business models: home office, showroom and store. Throughout Brazil, we have more than 200 franchises”, comments Mouco. “Solar energy is a clean and sustainable alternative to fossil energy sources, as it does not emit atmospheric pollutants or greenhouse gases during electricity generation”, he adds.

How to become a franchisee

To be an Ecos Energia Solar Fotovoltaica franchisee, the initial investment is R$22,400. The estimated payback period is between one and six months.
