In one fell swoop, a young family in Haag am Hausruck lost almost all of their belongings last week: a fire broke out in the family’s home on Thursday night. Support now comes from the municipality of Hague: donations are collected in an account to support the parents and their children. “It’s natural for us to help because we have the resources,” says Mayor Konrad Binder (VP).
The fire was discovered last Thursday around 12:30 a.m.: A neighbor saw flames coming from one of the lower windows and alerted the fire department. The family was initially asleep, but soon followingwards the 34-year-old father woke up and noticed the smell of burning.
Entire family well
The man woke up his 33-year-old wife and their three children aged ten, thirteen and fourteen, and together they fled to safety in the garden of the house.
The FF Haag am Hausruck arrived and called on their colleagues from Weibern as reinforcements. 50 firefighters were on duty, but their work was made considerably more difficult by the sleet and the slippery road surface. The room fire was contained relatively quickly, but the entire house is uninhabitable.
After the fire, all family members had to be taken to hospital and treated for suspected smoke poisoning. “Everyone is doing well once more now, the family is staying with their mother’s sister,” explains Binder.
Shortly following the accident, the family received numerous donations in kind, says the community leader: “In terms of clothing, for example, they are equipped with everything they need. It was really nice to see how great the people in the area are willing to help and donate community.”
Donations in kind are no longer needed for the time being, but the monetary donations will now be used to get the family back on their feet. Incidentally, Sparkasse Haag does not charge any fees for the donation account. “We will keep it open for a while, probably around a month,” explains Mayor Binder.
The family will probably no longer be able to return to the badly damaged fire house that was rented. Smoke, flames and extinguishing work have made it uninhabitable and renovation is probably not worth it. “They are now looking for a new house. If they find one, we might start another call for donations in kind,” says Binder.
Donation account
The community of Haag am Hausruck is collecting donations that will benefit the family following the fire that made their home uninhabitable. Sparkasse Ried-Haag operates a fee-free donation account:
