House of the Dragon season 2 will be released in summer 2024. In the meantime, let’s try to dissect the trailer to get some ideas on what to expect next year. We must believe that this season will revolve around the civil war which will pit Targaryens against Targaryens, dragons against dragons. This will be one of the important events that will lead to the decline of the dynasty for 300 years. It will also cause dragons to be absent during this time. Something apparent from the start of Game of Thrones and that fans should all know!
Trailer for House of the Dragon season 2, from sadness to crown!
In the first shot of the trailer, we see Rhaenyra mourning the loss of her son, Lucerys. While she desires to find peace, the death of her son will lead her on another path: vengeance and blood. A loss that will haunt the queen until the end of her days.
On the other side, Aegon II becomes the new Lord of the Seven Kingdoms. Although he is the interim head of the kingdom, he will develop a taste for power. The trailer shows us that he carries the dagger of Viserys, the one that will be used centuries later to kill the Night King in Game of Thrones.
The army of House Hightower and the threat of Aemond Targaryen
In the trailer for House of the Dragon season 2, we can see the army of House Hightower mobilizes to support Aegon on his throne. The beginning of an alliance between the new King and the prestigious family of Reach. We were able to discover in season 1 the force that animated Aemond Targaryen from his childhood. In this new season, we must believe that it aspires to the Iron Throne. The trailer shows us that he will succeed where his brother failed.
Alliances and revenge at the price of death

The murder of Helaena and Aegon’s son in the Trailer for House of the Dragon season 2
One of the most horrific scenes in this season will be the immediate Black response to Lucerys’ murder. In the book, Daemon hires two assassins to infiltrate the Red Keep, known as Blood and Cheese. The two men attack Helaena, as shown in the trailer, and kill one of Aegon and Helaena’s children, Jaehaerys. This moment is expected to happen early in the season and could be particularly gruesome.
