House of the Dragon: Actresses recast from episode 6 of the Game of Thrones spin-off!

News culture House of the Dragon: Actresses recast from episode 6 of the Game of Thrones spin-off!

You may have had trouble recognizing some of the House of the Dragon characters in Episode 6. Indeed, some characters have been recast.

House of the Dragonthe spin-off of Game of Thronesdecided to recast multiple characters from episode 6 of its first season. We explain to you.

Alicent Hightower and Rhaenyra Targaryen have changed heads, right?

Several characters have been recast, starting with two of the main ones: Alicent Hightower et Rhaenyra Targaryen. First interpreted respectively by Emily Carey et Milly Alcock, the characters are young in the first five episodes. However, following episode 5, the series does a ten-year leap in time. The majority of the characters will not have needed to be recast since they were already adults, but Alicent and Rhaenyra were young women, so it took cast new actresses to interpret them as adults. The princess of House Targaryen will now be played by Emma d’Arcy, which you may already know from the Hanna series. For her part, the future queen of the Hightower house is now interpreted by Olivia Cooke that you may have seen in Ready Player One.

More recasts yet to come

Other characters were also recast, for similar reasons. The twins Valeryon, Laenor and Leana, for example, already twice. Laenor was played as a child by Matthew Carverthen teenager by Theo Nateit is now interpreted by John Macmillan. Her on-screen sister was entitled, in order, to Nova Fouillis-Mosé, Savannah Steyn and finally Nanna Blondell. Let’s also mention two other Targaryens: Aegon IIplayed very young by the twins Rory et Jake Heardbefore being interpreted from episode 6 by Ty Tennant. It should also be interpreted even older, by Tom Glynn-Carneywhich predicts another timeskip during this season. Finally, the Alicent and Viserys’ baby, Helaena Targaryenwas played by a unknown childbefore taking on the adolescent features d’Evie Allen. It too should age visibly, since it is Phia Saban who will interpret it adult following the future good in time.

Note that while Milly Alcock confirmed talks to include young Rhaenyra in season 2 exist, she claimed to have “no idea” regarding whether that would happen. We therefore have no confirmation of the possibility of the return of young actors and actresses for their characters.

Overall sympathetic reactions

The recasts are often much maligned in the series, but it may be necessary to mark the change of temporality, character development over time … We can think of la série The Crown, for example, which describes the life of Elizabeth II and her entourage, over several decades. The series has chosen changing the entire cast of its main characters every two seasons (not in the middle of a season like HotD), which makes it possible to mark the aging of the latter, but also the change of era of their world and their country.

For House of the Dragon, the public generally understood and appreciated the recasts, due in this case to a temporal ellipsis and the youth of the characters in the first episodes.

24 hours later, the most seem to enjoy the new actorsalthough some regret these time leaps in the middle of a season … or just don’t like the new cast. Unfortunately, as one might expect, part of the public was also logically confused by this change
