We probably escaped the worst this Sunday around 6:15 a.m. at rue du Meunier, 12 in Rechrival (Sainte-Ode). The fire indeed completely destroyed a house that had just been completely renovated, and, fortunately, there was no one in this house at the time of the tragedy.
Firefighters from Bastogne, Saint-Hubert, Libramont and Paliseul were called to the scene. As they approached the village, they could see the column of smoke billowing from the building in the distance. When they arrived, the flames were already piercing the roof.
Locate and remove a gas cylinder
The sappers worked to locate a gas cylinder which was in the flames, to rule out any danger of explosion. This morning, around 10 a.m., they were still there, as was Pierre Pirard, the mayor of Sainte-Ode: “We do not know the cause of the disaster at this time, but the building is completely out of service. It is located at the bottom of the village, opposite the bridge. It is a tragedy for the owners who had just renovated it from bottom to bottom“, he says.
Rehoused with parents?
The family can probably be relocated by parents who live just a little further away.
As for safety, the firefighters are doing what is necessary, explains the mayor: “They are busy knocking down a threatening gable and the roof is collapsing inside the building. no longer obstructing traffic. The premises will be well secured.”
Until the arrival of an expert who will have to determine the causes of the disaster.
