A house facing the sea, with 223m2 of built area and 108m2 of external area, and an extraordinary view of Búzios, in Rio de Janeiro. This was the scenario in which the architects Bitty Talbolt and Cecília Teixeirado Brise Architecturebegan the total renovation project.
The clients, a couple in their sixties with two children, wanted the beach house to have a Mediterranean touch in its details and also a complete gourmet area. To achieve this, the architects opted for Greek white and blue on both the walls and the pieces chosen for the decor, and the result is a home that is casual, charming and full of personality.

The renovation involved several transformations of the original plan. On the ground floor, for example, the integration of the living, dining and part of the external patio allowed the social area to be considerably expanded. On the same floor, the space of one of the suites became the current kitchen, which was integrated into the new gourmet area, measuring 24m2, facing the sea. The architects also created a new suite, transforming the space under the stairs into a bathroom and an old storage room into a bedroom.

Valentine’s House: There were many structural changes to the house, such as the creation of the gourmet area, for example. Have there been any other changes?
Brise Architecture: We also raised the height of the roof, being careful not to modify the original facade. In the past, houses in Búzios had very low ceilings.
Valentine’s House: How did you choose the pergola and glass roof, lined internally with straw mats, for the gourmet area?
Brise Architecture: This feature made the environment more charming and welcoming and, in practical terms, helps to filter excess sunlight, especially on extremely hot days.
Valentine’s House: And the shutters?
Brise Architecture: The shutters have become a pop of color in a house with predominantly neutral decor.
