After two consecutive hotel murders, Chen Yongzhi was called a “hotel killer” by the public. In June 1999, in order to raise travel expenses, he sent grenades to the then legislator Lin Jinchun to ransom 100 million yuan, but he failed. He absconded to mainland China. During his escape, he still committed several attempted cases of intimidation and taking money by remote control. He was finally arrested in Shenzhen in 2010 and was deported to Taiwan on December 15 of the same year.
The police once suspected Chen Yongzhi of committing the Guangsan SOGO shooting. According to the investigation by the prosecution, at 11:20 noon on June 5, 1999, the surveillance camera of Lin Jinchun’s service office captured the picture of Chen Yongzhi walking into the service office, which was the time when the Guangsan SOGO shooting occurred, so Chen had an alibi , and the ballistic comparison did not match, and he successfully passed the polygraph test, the prosecution had no evidence to prove that Chen was responsible for the case, and did not prosecute him for the Guangsan SOGO shooting case.
