A popular hotel in Hagen is closing its doors to guests. But the end is a new beginning: soon underage refugees will be looked after here.
In Hagen, more precisely in the Selbecke district, a long-standing family business that has hosted guests for many decades has closed its doors to visitors since the end of September. The premises of the former hotel will now find a new purpose. A new owner plans to accommodate and look after underage refugees there in the future.

The operators of the Hotel Schmidt in Hagen announced on their website: “As of September 30, 2024, we have ceased our hotel operations.” Despite the popularity of the hotel, which had 36 rooms and a restaurant, it had to close. A guest praised the hotel on Google a few months ago with the words: “Modern rooms. Friendly staff. Everything is tip top!”

Horst Schmidt, who worked at the hotel for many years, explained Westfalenpost: “It is said that the roof of the apartment house will have to be replaced at the beginning of the year and a new heating system will probably be installed.” However, he was unable to say exactly when the first refugees would move into the former hotel.
