Morocco, in all its regions, has been subjected for a few days to strong heat which has caused, in particular, forest fires in the North. This heat wave, which is abnormal even during this period of summer, also affected other components of the rural world such as farmers, the environment and animals, including livestock.

Le360 went on Saturday, July 16, 2022 to the semi-arid region of Tiflet, 60 km northeast of Rabat, where he inquired regarding living conditions in this scorching heat. That day, at 4:00 p.m., the thermometer showed 35°C in the village of Moghane, a few km south of Tiflet. The hot air was difficult to breathe there while the peasants were rare to engage in outdoor activities.

Livestock in the region were kept in barns to be protected from the heat and the sun except for the animals forced to graze in the fields, for lack of hay and industrial feed dedicated to cattle.

Asked, the farmers were unanimous in saying that the heat wave, the drought and the scarcity of water complicated their living conditions. Habiba, wife of a peasant, said that she had just returned from a well located 4 km away where she had to go to be able to fill some cans of water.

“Here, it’s almost a water shortage,” explains her husband, Mohamed, also indicating that the drought has had a negative impact on the region’s vineyards.

For their part, the couple formed by Ahmed and Mina regrets the severe drought that will affect all of Morocco in 2022. “The scarcity of water has impacted even regions that were usually watered by abundant rainfall, as is the case in Boulemane, near Sefrou, where we are from,” Ahmed lamented, scanning the sky. .

According to the national meteorology, the heat wave will persist until the end of next week. A heat wave, or heat wave, is a meteorological phenomenon of abnormally high air temperatures, both diurnal and nocturnal, lasting from a few days to a few weeks, in a relatively large area.
