Hospitals in Antioquia managed to recover almost $12.6 billion

Thanks to a day of agreements, 42 public clinics and hospitals in Antioquia received a break from the financial crisis that affects them and recovered $12,595 million.

Last week, the National Superintendence of Health held an extrajudicial conciliation session in Medellin that brought the IPS face to face with the debtor entities, mostly EPS, to sign payment agreements and advance in the clarification and purification of existing debts.

After the closing of the face-to-face hearings, the preliminary balance left payment commitments for $6,680 million pesos for conciliatory agreements and another $5,915 million pesos as a result of withdrawals, that is, evidence of payment achieved by the management of the Superintendency.

Of the agreements themselves, 26 corresponded to State Social Entities (hospitals) and the remaining 16 to private IPS. “We are complying with the commitment to contribute to the financial sustainability of Antioquia providers, helping them with an adequate flow of resources,” said Adriana Flórez, Delegate Superintendent for the Jurisdictional and Conciliation Function.

The financial outlook for hospitals in Antioquia is critical. The debt of the EPS, several of them in liquidation, to 17 hospitals of the department amounts to almost $500,000 million. Coomeva, Medimás, Saludcoop and Cafesalud are the main debtors to the departmental hospital network.

The conciliation day is one of the mechanisms that Supersalud has to recover the portfolio and clarify the existing debt between providers and insurers.

In 46 months of the current Superintendency, close to 1.6 billion pesos have been reconciled in more than 1,600 IPS from all the departments of the country.
