The renewal of the recognition marks 20 years of JCI certified activity for the Capitoline IRCCS

Well, well, well! Gather ’round, folks! Have you heard the news from the land of pasta and proactive healthcare? The Bambino Gesù pediatric hospital in Rome has once again donned its shiny gold medal, confirming its status as an ‘Academic Medical Centre’ certified by JCI (Joint Commission International) from 2024 to 2027. That’s right, this little gem of a hospital is like the Tom Brady of pediatric healthcare—seven-time Gold Seal winner, and still going strong!

Now, let’s not ignore the history here. Back in 2006, in a monumental whistle-blowing moment akin to a child asking, “Why is the sky blue?” Bambino Gesù was the very first pediatric hospital in Italy to receive the illustrious JCI stamp of approval. And statistically speaking, that’s about as rare as finding a four-leaf clover on a crowded Paris street! This isn’t just any stamp; it’s the gold standard in healthcare accreditation. You know, the “I can trust these people with my cat” level of trust!

The big wigs over at JCI apparently took a stroll through the hospital from September 23 to 27 as if they were on a cheeky European vacation. They assessed over 1,200 elements—including patient care, infection control, hospital governance, and even the types of jello served at lunch! If that’s not thorough, I don’t know what is! It’s like being graded on authenticity by the judge from “The Great British Bake Off.”

Now, Tiziano Onesti, the general director of the hospital, is out there puffing up with pride like a peacock in mating season. He’s thanking his dedicated staff for making sure the hospital keeps the little ones smiling and has a heart as big as Italy’s love for gelato. “JCI accreditation is a clinical governance tool,” he says, which sounds a lot like the kind of thing you say when you’ve accidentally spent too much on a fancy shirt. But who could blame him? A shiny gold seal means a lot in this business! It’s practically the Hollywood Walk of Fame for hospitals!

Now, let’s unpack this—the JCI accreditation is like the Hall of Fame for healthcare; only a mere 28 establishments in Italy hold this prestigious badge of honor, with Bambino Gesù strutting its stuff as one of the six esteemed academic centers. I mean, talk about making the rest of the hospitals feel like they just showed up to prom in gym shorts!

This refreshing news comes right on the heels of a revealing survey about public healthcare in Italy that paints a somewhat grim picture. You’d think that with all this recognition, Italians would be swimming in wellness—like a Mediterranean mermaid, perhaps. Yet, what we’ve got is a juxtaposition fit for a dramatic Italian opera! Who’d have thought healthcare would be as complicated as ordering a simple espresso in the midst of a political drama?

In short, while Bambino Gesù is striving for excellence and getting the gold stars on its report card, it seems like the wider public healthcare scene may need to take a leaf out of its handbook—more teamwork, more cooperation, and perhaps a bit less bureaucracy! After all, healthcare is about giving people their best chance at life, not merely a comfy waiting room!

So, let’s raise our glasses—figuratively, of course—to the Bambino Gesù pediatric hospital for keeping the standards high and our kids healthier, one gold seal at a time. And as always, let’s remind ourselves to be grateful for the healthcare heroes out there. They make the real entrees in life possible while we just focus on nibbling on the side dishes. Cheers!

The renewal of the recognition marks 20 years of JCI certified activity for the Capitoline IRCCS

The Bambino Gesù pediatric hospital in Rome has been confirmed for the three-year period 2024-2027 as an ‘Academic Medical Centre’ certified by Jci (Joint Commission International), the main international accrediting body in the healthcare field. The renewal of the recognition marks 20 years of JCI certified activity for the Capitoline IRCCS. With confirmation of accreditation, the hospital receives the seventh Gold Seal of Approval, the Jci Gold Seal.

In 2006 – underlined a note from the IRCCS – Bambino Gesù was the first Italian pediatric hospital to receive the JCI ‘stamp’. The certification was renewed every 3 years until, in 2015, it was recognized as an Academic Medical Center for its intense activity in the field of medical training and clinical research, by virtue of the collaboration with the chair of Pediatrics at the University of Tor Vergata which is based in the hospital. The renewal announced today comes a few days after the evaluation survey which took place at the Rome-Gianicolo headquarters from 23 to 27 September. JCI inspectors assessed the hospital based on over 1,200 measurable elements (from patient-centered care to infection control programs, from hospital governance to infrastructure, from medical training to clinical research), verifying compliance with all international standards of quality and safety of care.

The general director of Bambino Gesù, Tiziano Onesti, declares himself “proud of this result which confirms, once again, the special attention to the needs of our little patients and their families. I am deeply grateful – adds the Director – to all the hospital staff, who continue to focus their efforts on improving the quality and safety of care for children and young people. Jci accreditation is a clinical governance tool that increasingly helps us to work in a multidisciplinary way. with team and community spirit, consolidating the international scope of our clinical innovation and patient and family assistance projects”. JCI accreditation is considered the first level standard in global healthcare, recalls a note from the children’s hospital. In Italy there are 28 Jci accredited structures, including 6 academic centres.
