Hospital Posadas: doctors were awarded for an investigation into the “cat scratch”

Doctors from the Hospital Nacional Posadas, located in the town of El Palomar in Moron, were awarded for a research work on the disease caused by “cat scratch”, an infectious pathology that can generate fever and swollen glands and of which there is little medical literature. The work, awarded at the recent National Congress of Medicine, consisted of analyzing a series of cases of cat scratch disease in adults.

This disease, caused by the bacterium Bartonella henselae, is transmitted mainly by contact with cats and, to a lesser extent, with puppies, and is characterized by fever and swollen glands. From the hospital they pointed out that it is “a work of great relevance”, mainly due to “the scarce existing literature, both nationally and internationally”.

The disease is caused by a bacterium.

In addition, he indicated that this disease “is a diagnostic challenge since adenopathies, which are its main clinical manifestation, are a frequent reason for consultation and by themselves lack specificity.” It is also “a pathology prevalent in childhood and uncommon in the adult population.”

Among the award-winning doctors are Edwin Rodríguez, the main author; Facundo Lamberto, Florencia Carrozza, Mariana dell Aquila and Rossio Ortuño.
