She lay on the floor, writhing, screaming in pain.
But all that was of no use. Now Allison Holthoff (37) is dead. The mother of three children died in agony in a hospital in Amherst (Canada). Unbelievable: The clinic let the woman stew in the emergency room for more than seven hours. The New York Post reports on this.
Allison Holthoff had to be carried
The accident had already happened on December 31, 2022. Husband Gunther Holthoff says: Allison fell off a horse in September and has been in pain ever since. At the end of the year her condition deteriorated dramatically.
Because his wife might not even walk, Gunther Holthoff carried her to the Cumberland Regional Health Care Center around 11 a.m. Upon registering, he said that Allison was in excruciating pain and that it was getting worse.
“I think I’m dying”
After taking blood and giving urine, the 37-year-old was asked to sit back in the waiting room. There Allison Holthoff had to lie curled up on the floor because her suffering was unbearable. She said to her husband, “I think I’m dying. Don’t let me die here.” One nurse asked if the patient “is always like this”.
Around 6:00 p.m. Allison’s pulse was racing and her blood pressure plummeted. “That was the first time I had the feeling that someone was paying attention to us,” says Gunther Holthoff. After around seven hours, the patient saw a doctor for the first time. A short time later, the Canadian’s heart stopped.
One percent chance of survival
Three attempts at resuscitation failed. The doctors decided not to operate on Allison – the chances of survival would have been around one percent. Gunther Holthoff and their three children said goodbye to their beloved mother, and at 11:30 p.m. the 37-year-old was officially declared dead.
More than a week following the loss of his wife, Gunther Holthoff still does not know the cause of death. The reason: He had not yet had any insight into the autopsy report.
