“Currently, most of the medical equipment that the service has is obsolete, since it has a useful life that ranges between 25-35 years, that is, it has led to overuse, which has led to the total decline of some of the equipment that is currently inoperable (…) It is relevant to mention that the facilities, equipment and furniture in a standardized manner are between 25-35 years old,” Hospital authorities acknowledge.
The Sports Medicine Service aims to give patients the opportunity to reintegrate into their personal and work environment.
It also offers academic activities focused on undergraduate medical students and students of the degree in physical and occupational therapy, where the treatment of existing conditions is taught, which mostly correspond to orthopedic pathologies (fractures), neurological pathologies (CVD, TBI). , spinal cord injury), totally opposite to the care of pathologies, early stimulation is carried out.
In addition, there are interconsultations of hospitalized patients in the Intensive Care Unit, rheumatology, pediatrics, geriatrics, among others.
It is admitted that currently the service does not have adequate and sufficient equipment to carry out its procedures.
The medical authorities of the Hospital point out that there is also a delay in the use of new equipment and technology due to the lack of investment over several six-year periods.
Every year, between 9 and 10 thousand patients receive the Sports Medicine service in the facilities, equipment and furniture of the Hospital Juárez de México.
SERVICE STOPPED IN TIME
“It is as a result of this situation that the prevailing need arises to acquire new equipment, not only to replace those that are obsoletebut also to add those that are currently not available, in order to achieve a total strengthening that allows providing quality and excellent medical care,” it is stated.
The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation service, which serves as a precursor to the Sports Medicine Service, began its operations in 1968 at the Juárez Hospital, however, it seems that time stopped, since almost nothing changed, almost nothing was modernized.
Due to the hospital reconversion due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the activities of this area were suspended for part of 2020 and 20021, and it reopened its services until March 2021 “only providing physiotherapy care, without comprehensive assessment by a specialist doctor.”
