Asuncion, IP Agency.- Coinciding with its 130th anniversary month, the Hospital de Clínicas of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the National University of Asunción (UNA) was authorized as an adult and pediatric heart transplant center by the National Institute of Ablation and Transplants (INAT).
The Hospital de Clínicas is currently a national reference center for organ donation and transplant procedures, including kidney, liver, bone and tissue, bone marrow and corneas; in addition to the training of specialists in these areas, serving the entire country.
The Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, Dr. Osmar Cuenca Torres, and the General Director of Healthcare, Dr. Jorge Giubi, reported that the School Hospital has been authorized by the National Institute of Ablation and Transplants (INAT) as a center for adult and pediatric cardiac transplants.
Cuenca Torres explained that despite the budgetary needs of the UNA Faculty of Medical Sciences, the Teaching Hospital is prepared to continue performing transplants, above all, because it has the most necessary tools and the talent and highly trained human resources, in addition to the important support of the Ministry of Health.
“There is a long list of people nationwide waiting for an organ to improve their quality of life. Today we have this authorization, which is essential for so many compatriots in need of quality care,” said the dean.
The Department of Cardiosurgery, part of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, is currently evaluating patients on the waiting list for a heart transplant.
In this regard, the head of Cardiac Surgery, Dr. Jorge Rotela, stated that an inspection of the service has been carried out and following that it has been enabled. “There are patients who are being studied. The Hospital continues to advance with improvements step by step, in order to provide more support to its community every day,” he said.
