Horticultural exhibition: a little taste of the summer thanks to the students of the CRIFA of Coaticook

COATICOOK. A sign that spring is knocking on our doors, the CRIFA Horticultural Expo will welcome visitors this weekend (April 6-7).

This unmissable event of the season, which will be in its 29th presentation, will take place this year under the theme “The hamlet of the valley”. “The hamlet is a small group of houses away from a village,” explains the landscaping teacher, Brigitte Proteau. We wanted the students to each be assigned to their own garden, as if they were meeting a client with needs and a deadline. We therefore find ourselves with four very different presentations, with classic styles, “farm house” and Scandinavian and Victorian houses. »

Students in the program have been working on this major project since the holidays. Christelle Gilbert will be at her second Horticultural Expo, having experienced it last year as a participant in the horticulture section. “We learn to work as a team,” she notes. It makes us think. There is not just one way to look at things. It opens our horizons and it’s very rewarding,” says the woman who worked on a stone arch of which she is very proud.

Speaking of pride, it is this feeling that invades Kalvyn Dorey a few days before the event. “We started from scratch, with only dirt on the floor. And there, we arrive with a front of a house, a sidewalk, grass. It was a long-term project, but I saw all the stages of this evolution. It didn’t look like anything and there, it’s a real setting. I hope people will be inspired by it. »

Other programs were called upon to create the course, including horticulture, floristry and forestry. “It was a great collaborative effort,” summarizes Ms. Proteau.

The Horticultural Expo will take place at the same time as the CRIFA open house activity. The formula, adopted for two years now, has been very successful, bringing more than 3,000 people to the site, a figure that we hope to surpass once again this spring.

Visitors are expected from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on these two days.
