The British rider Charlotte Dujardinthree-time Olympic dressage champion, has been provisionally suspended for six months by the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) with immediate effect.

The sanction, made public on Wednesday, comes after the athlete herself announced that she would not attend the Olympic Games of Paris after learning that the Federation was investigating her for a video from four years ago in which she allegedly mistreated a horse.
«A video has surfaced from four years ago showing me making an error in judgment during a training session.
It is understandable that the FEI is investigating and I have taken the decision to withdraw from all competition, including the Paris Olympic Games, while this process is underway.the rider said in a statement.
He also explained that what happened was «completely out of the ordinary» and does not reflect how he trains his horses or his students. “However, there is no excuse. I am deeply ashamed and should have set a better example at the time.

Statement by the FEI
The FEI stated that it had received a video “in which Mrs Dujardin is seen engaging in conduct contrary to the principles of equine welfare”.
The video shows the English athlete repeatedly hitting the horse with a whip from the ground of a student during a class.
The suspension bans Dujardin from participating in any competition or event under the jurisdiction of the FEI and those organised by a national federation.
According to the FEI, the video was Sent “by an attorney representing an undisclosed whistleblower. According to the information received, the images were allegedly recorded several years ago during a training session led by Mrs Dujardin in a private stable.
Upon receipt of the video, the FEI quickly launched an investigation. As part of this investigation, Ms Dujardin, British Equestrian and British Dressage were informed of the allegations.he pointed.

Dujardin, 39, is, along with the cyclist Laura Kennythe British athlete with the most Olympic titles.
She was champion in both the individual and team competitions in London 2012and repeated individual gold in Río 2016. In the Brazilian event she also won silver in the team category, and in Tokyo 2020 joined two more bronzes.
