Small milestone for Horizon, the metaverse in the making of Facebook. 300,000 people connect to it each month, following a spectacular increase in the number of followers since December.
One billion metaverse users by 2030: this is Mark Zuckerberg’s stated goal. It is clear that the road that must lead us there will be long. Indeed, at present, Meta (ex-Facebook) is happy to announce that it has passed the 300,000 user mark for Horizon, its virtual reality platform. And if we are still far from the fixed deadline, the metaverse of Mark Zuckerberg starts from very far.
That said, this figure hides a rather vertiginous progression, since the number of monthly users of Horizon was only 30,000 at the beginning of December. However, it is unlikely that such vigorous growth will last. Indeed, this sudden explosion is mainly due to the opening, at the beginning of December, of the platform to all North American users of a Quest headset. And if the spot broadcast on tens of millions of screens during the final of the last Super Bowl was intended to make Horizon known to as many people as possible, not sure that it is enough to give a new boost.
As a reminder, the Horizon platform includes several applications. The main one is Horizon Worlds, which allows anyone to create their own “world” in the metaverse. Horizon Venues is, for its part, a tool dedicated to holding live events in the metaverse, whether public meetings, shows or concerts, etc. Finally, Horizon Workrooms is a solution dedicated to the organization of professional conferences in a virtual universe.
It’s time. 10,000 worlds have already been created. Drop in and play, build or just hang out. The possibilities are endless. pic.twitter.com/VWc83PkuDV

Moreover, Meta announced this week that the bar of 10,000 worlds created on Horizon Worlds had been crossed. A nice boost observed following the end of year celebrations. The headsets offered at Christmas – including the Quest – undoubtedly prompted their users to be interested, at least a little, in what Facebook might offer on the Horizon side. Although no official figures have been released, it is estimated that around 10 million Quests have been sold to date. And to further encourage people to explore the possibilities of the metaverse, Mark Zuckerberg announced that Meta will launch a mobile version of Horizon this year.
“While the deepest and most immersive experiences will take place in virtual reality, you will also be able to access these worlds from your Facebook or Instagram apps, and likely more over time.“, explained Mark Zuckerberg, who does not want to waste a minute to impose his company as one of the main architects of the metaverse, in which it already plans investments amounting to billions.
