She added, that among the treatments that will represent good news for a diabetic if successful, there are a few cases that have achieved success in the field of stem cells and one patient was cured during the study, and there are other people who are being studied on, and it will represent good news for patients because it may be a curative treatment for type diabetes. She explained that one of its benefits is that it reduces risk factors for the heart and blood vessels, improves blood fats and reduces cumulative sugar from 1.2 to 2.5%, and therefore it is considered a strong treatment for diabetics, and it was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration “FDA”, and it was put on the market in the world, but the cost of Treatment of this type is very expensive and is intended for the second type of diabetes, and it is a weekly injection that makes the patient live normally, adding, that it works to reduce weight and then reduce the medications that the patient takes.
She explained, as for the medicines that are already in Egypt, during the last three years, injections for the second type of sugar contain basal insulin with similar to GLP1 and both in one injection, and basal insulin reduces fasting sugar and GLP1 analogs work to reduce sugar after meals and give These two drugs in one injection work to reduce the cumulative sugar significantly, up to 4% of the glycated hemoglobin, and they are daily injections for the type 2 diabetic, and two types of them were launched in the Egyptian market.
She said, as for the second drug that was launched in Egypt, it is the drug “Simaglutide”, which is the scientific name of the drug, which is tablets instead of injections, and it reduces weight and does not cause a drop in the level of natural sugar, and works to increase the secretion of insulin from the pancreas, and reduces the production of Glucose is supplied by the liver, and it works on the appetite centers in the brain and reduces appetite. It was in the form of injections, and now it is in the form of tablets, and injections are used in the field of weight reduction and treatment of diabetes as well.
Dr. Enas Shaltout added that the use of modern technology in the field of insulin injection method for patients with type 1 diabetes, adding that this type is very expensive, which is the artificial pancreas, which is a new technology for insulin injection according to blood sugar levelIt is the same idea as the insulin pump, but it is better developed, as it increases insulin secretion when sugar is high, and reduces insulin secretion when sugar is low.
