Step Back In Time on a Vintage Subway Ride Through Manhattan
A vintage 1930s subway train is returning to bring a touch of nostalgia to New York City’s transit system this holiday season. Starting Sunday and continuing every Sunday in December, the vintage R-1/9 train will run on the tracks, offering a unique journey through the heart of Manhattan.
“There’s really no more magical place in the country than New York in December,” New York Transit Museum Director Concetta Bencivenga recently remarked. “It’s just magic, and this is just an added element. It’s something a little bit different to do, but we only do it at this time of the year. It’s very fun, and it can get you in the holiday spirit.
The Retrospective, dubbed the “Arnines,” runs between the F line in Manhattan, starting at the 2nd Avenue-Houston Street station. It operates between the 1st Avenue – Houston Street station and 96th Street–2nd Avenue, traversing all the stops on the f line along its route.
