On the occasion of the pink month dedicated to the prevention of breast cancer, the Varese Basketball will take the field again (this year not with the pink jersey) together withCAOS Association odv (Breast Operative Listening Centre), with the collaboration of SME Srl MEDICAL CENTER, together with Sponsored by ATS Insubria and ASST Sette Laghi.
The red and white club is in fact confirmed for the third year deeply attentive and involved in the awareness campaign breast cancer prevention: a socially disabling pathology that affects almost 60,000 women a year in Italy but which, thanks to early diagnosis, has a recovery rate of over 95%.
The Itelyum Arenaheritage of the city of Varese, will host two days of open day with free breast ultrasound scans for the under 40 citizens of Varese, this is to respond to the need to increasingly raise awareness among young women.
The days in question will be:
– Saturday 12 October from 3pm to 6.30pm
– Saturday 26 October from 3pm to 6.30pm., and to participate it will be necessary to book on the number on the poster which will be published around 12:00 on CAOS communication channels.
“I am very happy to be able to announce this important initiative which is part of the many social responsibility activities undertaken by the red and white Club – the words of Raffaella Dematté, External Relations and CSR Manager and Safeguarding Officer of Pallacanestro Varese -. Varese Basketball celebrates for the third consecutive year the national Pink Month campaign, dedicated to raising awareness for the prevention of breast cancer. We know that diagnostic anticipation is fundamental in the fight against cancer, a disease that affects the lives of many women (60,000 per year) and therefore many families. The building, from a temple of sport, becomes a clinic for two open days of free ultrasound scans for the citizens of Varese. Consideration of the person, training and solidarity are the strengths that Pallacanestro Varese brings to the table for this battle of civilization which is the fight against cancer with the patronage of ATS Insubria and ASST Sette Laghi. Special thanks go to Dr. Goddi of the EMS Diagnostic Imaging Center, who makes this initiative possible thanks to the medical machinery made available; to Prof. Rovera who wonderfully directs the ASST Sette Laghi Breast Unit and to my friend Adele Patrini, tireless president of the CAOS association. We are here together to win the most important game, the one for life“.
“We participate in this initiative with conviction, integrating it into our path of social responsibility which sees us actively involved in the territory, alongside third sector associations and citizens – explains Dr. Alfredo Goddi, health coordinator of the Sme Medical Center, a structure of the Italian Diagnostic Center network -. It is particularly significant that the world of sport, patient associations, public health and private healthcare are able to network to facilitate prevention, bringing it to more accessible places, especially for younger women. Our province is the one in Italy with the highest incidence of breast cancer and over the years we have unfortunately noticed a growth in the onset of tumors in those under 40: it is therefore important to work to improve and expand access to screening for a pathology in where early diagnosis is crucial for successful treatment“.
“The collaboration between Pallacanestro Varese and the CAOS Association, with the patronage of ATS Insubria and ASST Sette Laghi, confirms the strategic role of the network between the public and volunteers, in this case, with a partner of excellence in sport, such as Pallacanestro Varese, which expresses a natural partnership between health and the promotion of prevention which is among the main missions of the Healthcare System and which should become a habit for everyone – the words of Salvatore Gioia general director of ATS Insubria-. Prevention is one of the solutions to guarantee collective well-being and reduce the incidence of chronic diseases, but above all to live long and healthy. Raising awareness about prevention should therefore be a daily priority for everyone. I therefore thank the organizers of this initiative which I hope represents the start of a constant commitment for everyone, including sporting realities“.
Also present was the President of Pallacanestro Varese, Toto Bulgheroni: “We want to underline the relationship with the community and the social role of the company. The results in the field will arrive, those outside, as in this project, are already clearly visible“.
On this occasion, in addition to highly qualified medical personnel in the breast field, the EMS Center will provide a High performance portable ultrasound system which will allow exams to be reported in real time. The ultrasound images will be delivered to patients on a bracelet-shaped USB key, a symbolic and practical reminder of the importance of prevention. If necessary, patients can be immediately addressed and taken care of, thanks to the collaboration with the staff of the Breast Unit of the ASST Sette Laghi directed by Prof. Francesca Rovera.
