Honorary reward on ballots for upvoting memoranda? – Newspaper BEFORE

▸Perissos tries to make openings towards the “right” in the composition of his ballot papers. Sensation as well as reactions were caused by the KKE’s choice for the national ballot – which usually has an “honorary” role – of Asimina Xirotyris-Aikaterinari, who as a member of DIMAR had voted for memoranda and other unpopular regulations. He then returned to SYRIZA, following A. Tsipras had signed the third memorandum. In 2017, an uproar was caused, with reports in parliament that her daughter, as managing director of TAIPED, was receiving annual salaries of… 270,000 euros! In the declarations of association with the KKE of A. Xirotyris-Aikaterinari, there was no “self-criticism” regarding her path in urban politics…

This is not the only “transfer” of the KKE from SYRIZA. Spyros Tzokas, the former mayor of Kaisarianis and former deputy governor with Rena Dourou, will be a candidate in the South Sector of Second Athens. The candidate in Athens First will be Konstantina Kouneva, who was a SYRIZA MEP until 2019, when she was once more a candidate with the ruling party at the time, without being re-elected. Konstantina Kuneva became an emblematic figure for the labor movement, when in December 2008 she was attacked with vitriol due to her trade union action as a cleaner in the OIKOMET company.

The labor response to employer brutality has been dynamic, mainly from grassroots unions, the militant Left and grassroots collectives. In her MEP term, K. Kuneva did not differentiate herself from the government choices of SYRIZA.
