Researchers at the University of Hong Kong conducted a study on the testicles and hormonal changes of hamsters infected with Corona 19 in a paper published in the international scientific journal ‘Clinical Infectious Disease’ on the 20th. said that the results were obtained.

The researchers explained that the hamsters showed a sharp decrease in sperm count and testosterone, a male hormone, following 4 to 7 days of infection with the coronavirus, as well as a decrease in the size and weight of the testicles.

In addition, rapid inflammation of the testicles, bleeding, and tissue necrosis of the spermatogenic organs were also found. The infected hamsters contracted pneumonia, but the symptoms were mild and recovered without assistance.

The research team said that the COVID-19 omicron mutation and the delta mutation appeared to have a similar effect on the decline of male reproductive function.

He also said that there is a study that reported pain in the testicles in COVID-19 patients.
