Faced with the outbreak of Covid-19, Hong Kong is in “battle mode“, said a senior city official on Sunday, the day following reinforcements arrived from China to build two quarantine centers for people carrying the virus.
Like mainland China, Hong Kong adheres to the strategy “zero covid“, which largely prevented the spread of the virus, but isolated the business center from the rest of the world. Since the appearance of the highly contagious variant Omicron, the authorities have been taken aback, due in particular to a low vaccination rate among the elderly and the lack of anticipation to deal with such an epidemic outbreak.
