Homophobia: Creator Simon Porte Jacquemus tells Laurent Ruquier how his vacation photos with his companion sparked a wave of insults… and how he responded – Watch

The designer Simon Porte Jacquemus was last night invited by Laurent Ruquier on France 2 in “We are live” for a strong testimony on homophobia still very present in France.

On vacation in Mexico, designer Simon Porte Jacquemus posted a couple photo on Instagram on January 29 with her boyfriend. A photo that has earned him thousands of homophobic messages, insults and threats. The creator told France 2 last night how he reacted to this wave of hatred, even if, he said, “I’ve been living this since I was 8 years old in the schoolyard, but this time I was no longer a child in a class and I wanted to react”.

Simon Porte Jacquemus is a French designer born in Salon de Provence on January 16, 1990. He is known to be the founder of the Jacquemus brand. Simon grew up in a family of farmers. He first studied fashion at ESMOD but following a few months, he left school to become artistic director of Citizen K.

Following the death of his mother, Simon Porte decided to give another direction to his life and become a stylist. Thus, at the age of 20, he found himself at the head of his own company, Jacquemus, in homage to his mother’s surname.

He took part in Paris Fashion Week in 2012. At 22, he was then one of the youngest designers at the event. In 2014, he collaborated with La Redoute and was awarded the Special Jury Prize at the LVMH Prize a year later.

Today, he sells his creations in various shops in Paris, London and New York.
