Homeless people who occupied a square in Little Tokyo were relocated to a luxury hotel in downtown Los Angeles.

According to Los Angeles City Councilman Kevin de León, who represents District 14, some of the homeless who had settled in Toriumi Plaza, were temporarily moved to the LA Grand Hotel Downton, on South Figueroa Street.

The 4-star hotel, which closed its services to the public at the end of 2020, it is currently used to receive homeless people from the city of Los Angeles as part of Project Roomkey.

In a collaboration of State of California, Los Angeles County, and Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA)Project Roomkey seeks to secure hotel and motel rooms for vulnerable people who are homeless.

Since last week, the authorities cleaned and fenced off Toriumi Plaza.

The hotel’s general manager, Tom Beedon, he was excited to be able to help people who are homeless.

“Absolutely. We are happy to do that. We are happy to be able to help the community, which we are a big part of,” Beedom told Fox.

When the LA Grand Hotel Downtown offered service to the public, a room was being offered for approximately $400 per night in the period leading up to its closing.
