Cardiovascular disorders, a major issue:
- arterial hypertension is the most frequent chronic pathology in France (2): 1 in 3 adults is hypertensive (3). Beyond cerebrovascular accidents (CVA) of which it is the first risk factor (4), hypertension can cause other cardiovascular, renal or ocular complications.
- atrial or atrial fibrillation (Afib) is the most common heart rhythm disorder (5), which can cause clots to form, which can lead to stroke and other complications. It multiplies the risk of cardiac arrest by 5 and the risk of stroke by 4 (6). Atrial fibrillation is favored by aging, obesity… but also and above all by the presence of hypertension (7). However, atrial fibrillation can occur asymptomatically and in occasional episodes, which makes it difficult to detect and therefore often goes undiagnosed and untreated.
Given the seriousness of the consequences that atrial fibrillation can cause, it is important for people potentially at risk to regularly monitor their health with an electrocardiogram and a measurement of their blood pressure at home.
Reliable home blood pressure monitoring
This monitoring is essential to detect and prevent cardiac pathologies. To enable this early home screening for high blood pressure and atrial fibrillation, OMRON has designed the Complete, a 2-in-1 monitor that can measure blood pressure and record a single-lead electrocardiogram simultaneously, to screen including possible heart rhythm disorders (Afib, bradycardia, tachycardia). These results when analyzed together give a more accurate picture of a person’s cardiovascular health.
Two essential measurements at the same time with ease
- The Complete is a connected device that requires having a smartphone and downloading the OMRON connect app. Using the Complete is therefore very simple. The cuff should be placed around the arm. Then, just open the OMRON connect app and follow the on-screen instructions to start an ECG recording. The smartphone must then be placed on the support of the Complete.
- Then you have to press the button [START] and simply position the thumbs on the upper electrodes and 2 fingers (minimum) on each of the side electrodes of the Complete to start the ECG recording.
- The blood pressure and heart rate values are displayed on the monitor a few seconds later. Once the operation is complete, the cuff deflates.
- The ECG curve appears on the smartphone screen in real time and, once the ECG recording is complete, the interpretation of the result is displayed clearly and understandably by the patient or caregiver: normal, possible Afib, bradycardia, tachycardia.
- Blood pressure data is also transferred automatically and displayed almost simultaneously on the smartphone.
Easy data sharing for an earlier and more precise diagnosis: the Complete indeed offers healthcare professionals complete and precise information (1) on the heart health of their patients to help them establish an earlier diagnosis and prescribe an appropriate treatment. The patient can easily share his results with his doctor from the OMRON connect application: the doctor can thus have access to his patient’s cardiac data.
Clinical validation to guarantee measurement accuracy: clinically validated(1), the Complete provides accurate and reliable blood pressure and ECG data. The precision of OMRON technology allows the detection of potential atrial fibrillation with 100% sensitivity and specificity. The interpretation of the ECG produced by the Complete algorithm resulting in a “possibility of AFIB” is reliable with a sensitivity of 99% and a specificity of 97%, compared to the interpretation of the doctors.
The doctor can thus rely on the measurements and data produced by the Complete to support and confirm his diagnosis with complete confidence.
