The movie stars who signed the letter, including Gael Garcia Bernal, Jim Garmus and Maxine Beck, quoted a Human Rights Watch report stating that “Israel” is committing crimes of apartheid and persecution.
The artists, including Harry Potter co-stars, Miriam Margulies and Julie Christie, continued: “We recognize the power imbalance inherent between Israel, the occupying power, and the Palestinian people under a regime of military occupation and apartheid.”

The artists explained that they condemned all forms of racism, including anti-Semitism and Islamophobia. They said, “Opposition to a political system or policy is different from intolerance, hatred and discrimination that targets any group of human beings on the basis of their identity.”
