Cameron Diaz retired from Hollywood eight years ago, putting her acting career on hold to focus on her private life with her husband, Good Charlotte guitarist Benji Madden (43), and their daughter Raddix Chloe Wildflower Madden (2), to concentrate. Now the 49-year-old is back and will soon be seen in the comedy “Back In Action” alongside Jamie Foxx (54) on the big screen. Diaz now took her comeback as an opportunity to Podcast «Second Life» review their beginnings in the industry.

Born in California, she worked as a model in the 1990s. However, she had trouble getting bookings. At that time she even tried her luck in Paris, but in vain. “I was there for a whole year and didn’t work a single day. I mightn’t find a job with the best will in the world, »says Diaz in an interview with moderator Hillary Kerr (41).

At some point an offer finally came, but there was a catch: “I think I was a drug courier who smuggled stuff into Morocco – I swear!” She was given a locked suitcase, which is said to have contained her costumes. It wasn’t until she arrived at the airport that she realized there were illegal substances in the luggage, which caused her to panic.

Diaz faced a 10-year prison sentence

“I’m that blonde, blue-eyed girl in Morocco. I’m wearing ripped jeans and platform boots and my hair is down – it’s really unsafe,” recalls the 49-year-old. “I told the officers: ‘I don’t know, it’s not mine, I have no idea who owns it.’ That was the only job I got in Paris.” To avoid at least 10 years in prison, Diaz left the suitcase with the officers and returned to Los Angeles.

After this bad experience in France, it was only a few weeks before she was approached on the street in the USA by a casting agent. “I don’t act, it’s not my thing,” the Hollywood star said at the time. Only director Chuck Russell (64) was able to convince her to play in the film “The Mask” alongside Jim Carrey (60). A success, because it was Cameron Diaz’s international breakthrough.
